As World Mental Health Day approaches, a reminder that caring for people starts with making room for their well-being.
In 1992, the World Federation for Mental Health introduced World Mental Health Day to bring greater attention to mental health. Observed every October 10, the date has become an opportunity to raise awareness, encourage conversations, and mobilize support for better care.
More than three decades later, that purpose remains essential. According to the World Health Organization’s 2025 report, World Mental Health Today, more than one billion people worldwide live with a mental health condition, and most remain underserved. Behind that number are people, families, and communities whose needs deserve understanding and support.
At LinkAmerica, our people-first culture reminds us that every person brings more than professional skills to work. We bring emotions, relationships, personal challenges, and aspirations.
As October 10 approaches, we’re highlighting five everyday practices that can help us make room for mental well-being.
1. Build a rhythm that includes time to recharge
Think about how you organize your energy throughout the day. Set realistic priorities, allow room for breaks, and protect time outside work for activities you enjoy.
Start small: Identify your main priorities for tomorrow and plan a moment to recharge, whether that means enjoying a hobby, spending time with family, or simply resting.
2. Give sleep a place in your routine
Sleep is an important part of caring for your mental health. A consistent schedule and a calming bedtime routine can help you make it a priority.
Start small: Choose one relaxing activity to wind down before bed, such as reading or listening to quiet music.
3. Make time to nourish yourself
Regular, balanced meals and enough water can support your energy and concentration. Consider how your daily schedule can make space for both.
Start small: Plan your lunch and keep water within reach.
4. Find movement that works for you
Physical activity can support your mood. Choose movement you enjoy and that suits your abilities, whether it’s walking, dancing, swimming, or another activity. Small amounts count.
Start small: Make time for a short, enjoyable activity today.
5. Stay connected and welcome support
Spend time with people you trust. When emotional difficulties persist, worsen, or affect daily life, reach out to a qualified health professional. Healthy habits can support well-being alongside appropriate care.
Start small: Arrange a conversation with someone you feel comfortable talking to.
Putting people first is something we do together
Individual habits are part of the picture. The way we organize work, communicate expectations, and respond to challenges also matters.
For LinkAmerica, putting people first means keeping that responsibility in view: listening with respect, encouraging conversations about workload, and recognizing the importance of rest and personal time.
World Mental Health Day gives us a shared moment to reflect. The opportunity to care for ourselves and one another continues throughout the year.
As October 10 approaches, what is one small step you can take to make more room for your well-being?
